What To Know: Waxing

  • The wax we use is always hypoallergenic, paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free, and toxin free.

We offer a few options when it comes to wax as we believe some things work better for different skin or hair types:

    • Hard wax is designed to just grab onto the hair not the skin making the wax more comfortable and less damaging.

    • Soft wax is great for grabbing thinner fine hairs and achieving a little more exfoliation.

HxH Studios only uses single use products and sanitizes after every client.

  • Exfoliation is important as it helps break down dead skin that builds up around the follicles and allows the hair to be more shallow. The hair being more shallow allows for a better wax as the hairs will slide out of the skin more easily also making the wax less painful.

Exfoliating helps prevent ingrowns as it keeps dead skin off the surface allowing for the hairs to grow through properly.

We recommend using an HxH Sugar Scrub, Dry brush, or Exfoliating Gel before or during your shower. You can begin exfoliating every other day leading up to your wax appointment. A warm shower the morning of your appointment can help to soften the skin and hairs to allow for a smoother wax.

  • We specialize in speed waxing, so expect for your appointment to be quick and efficient. We do not offer modesty covering for certain services so that we can ensure max efficiency.

We always want to ensure comfortability, so do not hesitate to let us know how we can make you more comfortable.

    Normal things that may occur:

    • Pin Point bleeding- this occurs in the pore when a follicle has been damaged. This is not a bad thing as it means the follicle was damaged and will take longer to regenerate and grow a new hair.

    • Sweating- this is our body’s natural reaction to stress/trauma. This can also happen as placing warm wax on the body can raise the body temperature.

    • Cussing- this happens as a natural human reaction to uncomfortable things lol

If you are new to waxing, we will always walk you through every step of the way! Never hesitate to ask us questions about services or products!

We are here to provide the best experience!

  • Moisturizing is important as it helps replenish the skin, soothe irritation and lubricate the follicles allowing hairs to slide out easier. It also helps keep the skin soft so that when hair grow back, they can grow through the surface properly. Keeping the skin moisturized also helps prevent aging as the skin can be more elastic and stretch/move easier.

Hydrating is important as our bodies are mostly made up of water. So drinking enough water will allow the skin to be soft, more plump and allow for the hairs/follicles to be softer allowing for better waxing results!

Exfoliating a few days after your wax and continuing exfoliation until your next wax will prevent any ingrowns and keep the skin smooth!

Products- There are a lot of products out there. HxH products are specifically designed with waxing in mind. All products are Non Comedogenic(don’t clog pores), paraben free, phalate and sulfate free, cruelty free, and non toxic. Ask your provider for recommendations!

    Avoid bacteria

Avoid getting bacteria in open pores. Sweating, makeup, deodorant, even dirty hands can cause bacteria to get into the pores and cause a breakout. If you do sweat or think you might not have kept the waxed area clean, take an immediate shower(no scented soaps) or use a toner such as witch hazel on the area to cleanse.

  • Consistent Waxing

Waxing consistently is important as it takes about 2-3 waxes to sync up hair cycles. Just like our cell turnover rate, we have about a 28 day hair cycle. So waxing consistently every 3-4 weeks allows us to keep hair cycles in sync for better waxing results and smoother longer lasting results.

    Hair length

The hair needs to be 1/4 inch long or the length of a grain of rice for the wax to grab onto. Usually 10 days to 2 weeks after your last shave is best! The hair can never be too long, only too short.

    Shaving

It is NOT recommended to shave in between waxes as this can contribute to bumps as well as throws the hair cycles off which will cause your wax to not last as long or not be as smooth. If you shave within days of your wax, those hairs will not be long enough for the wax to grab.

    Sun Exposure

It is recommended to avoid tanning 48 hrs prior to your wax and to continue to avoid sun exposure 48-72 hrs after your wax. Sun exposure dries the skin out which can cause the hairs to be dry and break during your wax. Exposing freshly waxed skin to the sun will increase the risk of sun burns and skin damage.

    Working out

It is recommended to wait at least 24-48 hrs before working out to avoid sweat bacteria in the pores. If you cannot refrain, take a shower immediately after to cleanse the skin.

    Makeup & Deodorant

Avoid applying makeup or deodorant to freshly waxed skin as this can clog the pores and cause a breakout. waiting at least 48 hrs before applying is recommended.

    Products

It’s important to use products designed for waxed skin. A lot of products can have fragrances, alcohols, parabens, sulfates, and other chemicals that can contribute to ingrown hairs. Making sure you’re using products free of fragrance and alcohols is important. Hairless by Hannah offers a whole line of natural, organic, paraben free, sulfate free, cruelty free, phalate free, non toxic products great for at home skin care needs.

What To Know: PMU

  • Permanent makeup is the process of applying pigment to the skin that heals into a makeup look.

Permanent makeup is similar to a tattoo, however real tattoos hit the lower layer of the epidermis/top layer of the dermis and permanent makeup is designed to only hit the top layers to create a softer more natural look.

Permanent is designed to fade over time to allow for new application over the years to keep them soft and natural.

There are many permanent makeup techniques from micro blading to powder brows to nano stroke brows. We want to ensure we achieve your perfect brow goals!

A consult is always required to ensure candidacy as blood thinners, chemo, radiation, accutane and certain medications are contraindications for the services. A consult also allows us to go over all the techniques, discuss desired goals, and show examples to ensure we get you exactly what you want!

  • It is important that the skin be in the best condition before having a permanent makeup procedure. This means avoiding retinols, chemical peels, harsh facials and tanning at least 4 weeks prior to your appointment. Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and anything that thins the blood 48 hrs prior to appointment.

Must NOT be pregnant or breast feeding.

NO blood thinners, chemo or radiation- you cannot have a PMU procedure if you are currently on any of these treatments. Permission is required from doctor.

Accutane- Must be off oral acne treatment for 12 months

NO Botox within 2 weeks- we support botox, however, it is important to have it done at least 2 weeks or more before your pmu service so that the muscles & botox is settled in by the time of your appointment. Having it done too close to your pmu appointment could effect the mapping/symmetry of brows/lips/liner as well as how the botox settles into the skin/muscles.

Filler- If you are having a lip blush but you also get lip filler, this will need to be done at least 4 weeks prior to appointment or 4 weeks after lip blush has healed.

  • Upon arrival we will provide some paperwork to be filled out. We will also immediately apply topical numbing anesthetic to allow for maximum numbing time.

We will take our time to walk back through the plan for the day and consult again about desired results.

Before performing the procedure, we will thoroughly go over color options. The colors will be placed across the forehead (or area of the face) and your artist will explain undertones, fading, and expected healed results to allow for the best color selection.

Once you are fully numb, your artist will use a string mapping method to map out the procedure area to ensure full symmetry. From there a shape is designed to fit YOUR face. Before continuing you will get to see this design as well as make any adjustments you like until you are perfectly happy to move forward.

Once the procedure begins, a secondary anesthetic is applied throughout the service to allow for maximum comfort.

  • Healing time for permanent makeup is about 2-3 weeks.

Skin needs to be treated as an open wound and avoid direct water, sun exposure or sweating in area, for a minimum of 2 weeks. Avoid getting makeup or skincare products in healing areas.

Healing for permanent makeup is very similar to tattoo healing.

You will keep the skin clean, apply a topical healing ointment provided at end of service, and wait till all the layers of skin have healed.

We send you home with an aftercare card to make healing at home easy!

  • How long does PMU last?

Permanent makeup is designed to last 1-3 years with yearly color boosts as needed.

    Why does it fade?

Fading occurs naturally overtime due to the types of pigments used and the pigment not being placed as deep in the skin as a tattoo. This is intentional to allow us to maintain a natural look vs a “tattooed brow” look.

    Does PMU hurt?

NO. Permanent makeup is not an uncomfortable procedure due to the quality anesthetics used. Everyone does process topical anesthetics differently, so we always take extra time to ensure numbness as well as keeping different anesthetics on hand.

How long does the procedure take?

Anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. Every service is different and we never rush! So come comfortable and ready to hangout!
